Long Time Coming

Having been on board covering the Rays since their inception, I sometimes have to pinch myself to believe how drastically things have changed for the better.

Saturday’s Fan Fest brought out an overwhelming contingent of Rays fans to Tropicana Field and today a nice gathering of fans have come out to watch the first workout for pitchers and catchers at Charlotte Sports Park. The team is no longer a bunch of no names, rather they are a popular collection of mostly young and talented players who are now the hunted. Should be interesting this spring to see how the team handles their new identity.  After years of frustration, everything seems to be falling into place for the Tampa Bay franchise.

Too true, and there were some amazing shows of unselfishness in the team signings on Sat. I do not know if you saw it, but Carlos Pena was late, but ended up staying beyond both his time and one hour to try and get as many fans signatures as he could before he had to leave.

Scott Kazmir also stayed 15 extra minutes signing as much as he could for fans right near the end of the event. And good old Shawn Riggans was still signing at 5 :15 by the right field foul pole when I finally left the stadium. All three of these guys showed great Rays spirit and the reason we love this team.

Also have a Fan Fest picture blog posted if anyone might want to see.
