Isringhausen Looks Strong

Bullpen hopeful Jason Isringhausen had a strong outing Sunday when he pitched an inning of relief.

The veteran right-hander pitched back-to-back days for the first time this spring and faced four batters, striking out one while getting three ground balls — one that was booted — while holding the Reds to no runs.

Having a healthy Isringhausen gives the Rays some extra depth in the bullpen, particularly if Troy Percival isn’t able to go — even though Percival has been lights out this spring. These are the kinds of problems organizations love to have.

The Red Sox have the same “problem” – too many good pitchers!

I hope they can find a way to keep Isringhausen on the Rays staff. How great would it be to have two guys with that stature on your Bullpen staff. Either Izzy or Percival could close games, or even set them up from the 8th inning.
That is a win…win situation to me.

I hope the Rays can find some sort of way to keep Izzy and Lance Cormier. I know it might mean trading one of the current guys fighting for the fifth rotation spot, but both these pitchers are improvements over the 2008 Bullpen mates that are no longer here.
