Infielder Adam Kennedy was traded to Oakland Friday for a player to be named later and cash.
Kennedy was signed to a Minor League contract this spring and brought into camp as infield insurance. Fortunately for the Rays, they did not have any injuries, which allowed them to move Kennedy to Triple-A Durham.
The Rays basically told Kennedy going in that if something came along and a Major League opportunity presented itself, they would trade him. And to the Rays’ credit, they followed through on their end of the deal.
Rays manager Joe Maddon had nothing but good things to say about the veteran, calling him a total professional.
