Pena Not Starting Against Beckett

With Josh Beckett on the mound and having the opportunity to give Carlos Pena two consecutive days off with the off day Monday, Rays manager Joe Maddon gave his first baseman the night off.

Pena has three hits in 22 career at-bats against Beckett, including 13 strikeouts.

Pena wanted to play, but kidded that he wasn’t going to go in the manager’s office to protest based on his lack of success against Beckett.

Willy Aybar will be at first tonight.
