Crawford’s Streak Over
Carl Crawford’s stolen base streak came to a close just a moment ago with one out in the third.
Crawford had just reached base on a single after a 10-pitch at-bat, driving in the Rays’ second run, before Twins starter Francisco Liriano threw to first just when Crawford took off running. First baseman Justin Morneau threw to shortstop Brendan Harris and the former Ray slapped down the tag for the out.
Crawford had stolen 32 consecutive bases dating back to July 18 against Toronto — and he was 30-for-30 in stolen base attempts this season. Crawford’s streak was the longest since Jimmy Rollins of the Phillies stole 39 in a row from Sept. 1, 2007 to July 19, 2008.
The Rays speedster is feeling good, so don’t be surprised to see him start another streak, and soon.
