Joyce Headed Back to Rays

After Saturday’s 5-2 win over the Twins, the Rays recalled outfielder Matt Joyce from Durham. To make room on the roster, right-hander Dale Thayer was optioned to Durham.

Joyce was hitting .315 with five home runs and 27 RBIs in 41 games for Durham.

Rays manager Joe Maddon said Joyce would start Sunday and he plans to play him as much as posible.

Thayer was 0-0 with a 5.06 ERA and one save in three appearances.

“It was nice, it was a good experience,” said Thayer of his brief stint with the Rays. “I was here a little bit longer than what they said at first. I’m just going to go down there and work on some things, and hopefully get back up.”
