Rays Happy to Be Opening at Home

The Rays 2010 season opener will be played at Tropicana Field this season.

Not since 2005 have the Rays opened the season at Tropicana Field. Team president Matt Silverman said the Rays are looking forward to kicking off the season in front of a friendly crowd.

“It’s going to be comfortable,” Silverman said. “It may be uncomfortably comfortable since we haven’t done it in so long. But to be able to transition from Port Charlotte and start in the home clubhouse is a luxury we didn’t have last year.

“It allows you to get off to a fresh start and get into a rhythm before you go on the road. We didn’t hit that rhythm until May of last year and it was already too late. And hopefully we’ll get off to a good start early and let that propel us through the season.”
