Blalock Reports Continue
Reports are still out there that the Rays are interested in Hank Blalock.
According to a twitter by FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the Rays offered Blalock a Minor League deal, but they aren’t interested in getting into a bidding war for his services.
The only way this deal makes sense is if the veteran slugger signs a discounted Minor League deal because the Rays have Pat Burrell at DH and he will make $9 million this season. However, if Burrell is a bust the first two months of the season as he was in 2009, having someone like Blalock at Triple-A Durham might convince the Rays to cut ties with Burrell.
A big drawback to the Rays signing Blalock is the fact he has limited flexibility as far as playing in the field. He split his time between first base and DH in 2009, hitting 25 home runs for the Rangers.
