Garza Good Among Other Things
A lot of good things happened for the Rays Sunday afternoon during an 8-2 win over the Pirates. Zobrist, Rodriguez and Crawford accounted for eight hits, Pena had his second home run of the spring — and he wasn’t hurt after fouling one off his right foot — but most of all Sunday proved to be another showcase for Garza.
The Rays right-hander has had a superlative spring. He went seven on Sunday, pounding the fastball throughout the game and generally looking in total command. Garza said the outing was good, but left him with something to work on: He felt he could have done a better job of getting ahead of the hitters.
Garza appears headed for a terrific season. I still can’t get over the fact he’s walked just four hitters all spring.
