Longo Gets His Due
Evan Longoria was honored Monday afternoon when the announcement was made that he had won a 2010 “Fielding Bible Award” for third base in The Bill James Handbook 2011. Only one player for each position is selected.
A panel of 10 experts picked the winners. Among the panel were Peter Gammons, Bill James, and John Dewan, the author of Fielding Bible Volume II.
About selecting Longoria, Dewan wrote: “The was our closest race. Evan Longoria prevented Ryan Zimmerman from winning his second consecutive award by a single point in the voting (92-91).
