Guyer Goes Deep

Brandon Guyer just homered in his first Major League at-bat.

In doing so, Guyer became the first player in team history to homer in his first Major League at-bat in his Major League debut.

Right-hander Esteban Yan homered in his first Major League at-bat, but the home run did not come in his first game.

Guyer in Baltimore

Just ran into Brandon Guyer in the elevator at the Rays’ team hotel, so it appears that Jeff Niemann has gone on the disabled list due to the back stiffness that caused him to leave Wednesday night’s game.

Looking ahead, the Rays have an off-day Monday, which will allow the rotation to go through another turn without needing the fifth starter.  Thus, they have the luxury of carrying an additional position player.

Guyer has been tearing it up at Triple-A Durham.  In 28 games, the right-handed hitting outfielder is at .356 with six home runs and a 1.018 OPS.
